DCEU's future (if it has one)

So not that long ago I read an article on ign that said that Henry Cavill is done playing superman. For those who do not know Henry Cavill has played superman ever since man of steel appearing in Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Normally this would not be that big of a deal except for something else. Not that long ago my friend told me that Ben Affleck also wants out with the DCEU and will no longer be playing batman and sure enough I looked it up and I found an article that does indeed confirm that Ben Affleck is pretty much done playing as batman in the DCEU. So my question is, what does this mean for the future of DCEU?

Normally I would say that this would mean the end of the DCEU, how can you have a DC universe without batman and superman? One of them could be easily killed off (or just stay dead) but not both of them! This is why my initial impression was that the DCEU would just end all together, it was never that big of a success anyway (The Dark Knight trilogy does not count as DCEU movies because it was not the same batman). But then I remembered something: we have three confirmed DCEU movies coming in the near future**: Shazam, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman 2 (I don't believe we have an official title yet). As far as I know these movies have shown no sign of cancellation either. So it seems clear that DC is trying to take a similar path to Marvel in that they are going to try and add new superheroes in the universe and expand on the characters we already know about to then bring them all back together in Justice League 2 where they will most likely take on Darkseid. But that still leaves open the question of what about batman and superman?

To me there a few possible scenarios for how and why they will fix this problem:
1) Kill them off completely (permanently this time).
2) Get the multiverse involved
3) Have another character take over for Superman and Batman.
4) Recasting the characters and continuing like nothing ever happened.

The first solution to me is the laziest, and the stupidest (which means that DC might actually do it). Just erasing them from the universe since the actors don't want to play them anymore. I think the fans would be really mad and disappointed at DC if they did this but at least if they do this it will be very hard for DC to set the bar even lower. (I think I know how they could though. 3 words: Green Lantern 2 or Green Lantern Remastered). Really I think the only thing that will come out of doing this is that it will truly make the DC fans give up on the DCEU every being as good as the MCU. That being said I would still not consider it out of the realm of possibility.

To me the second solution is the most likely. Considering that the DC tv shows have brought the multiverse in and how apparatenly arrow, supergirl and the flash are all set on different versions of earth I think that the DCEU is on a similar route. (FYI I have never watched the tv shows aside from an episode or two so if what I just said is wrong please let me know in a comment). I don't think it would be that hard to transport a different superman and a different batman from an alternate universe and have them join the Justice League (obviously played by different actors). However there are two things that they would have to address if they followed through with this, neither of which are hard. The first one is what happened to the batman and superman on this earth? Well to me there are two ways they could do this, either have the batman and superman on this earth die, and actually stay dead, or have this earth's superman and batman swap places with the superman and batman from the alternative reality (like what ricky did in Doctor Who). The more complicated part is why would the other superman and batman want to stay in the different universe than theirs. DC would have to be a little creative with that one because its not just anybody who would be willing to leave behind everything they know and love to live in an alternative version of your home planet. However I do not see why this would be extremely hard either. The only down side I can see if they go this route is that they overcomplicate things and introduce like 20 alternate universes so by the end of whatever movie this is you are just left confused about which character is in which universe. However if they avoid this problem to me this is the best way to go.

So this next possibility might not be perfectly clear. What I mean by "have another character take over for them" is that make the superman and batman currently in the DCEU go away somehow and have some other character take up the role of batman and superman, even though they won't actually be Kal-El and Bruce Wayne. I know for a fact both Marvel and DC have done this in the comics. In DC I am aware of three different characters that have taken the name of Robin. (can't think of their names though). In DC comics it has also been confirmed that three different people have adopted the villain name of "The Joker." Marvel has also done the same thing by having multiple people adopt the superhero name "Spiderman" after Peter Parker's death so this type of thing is not unheard of. In fact I think replacing superman like this would be easy, just bring in Supergirl! Whether they would have the same person on the TV show play supergirl on the big screen I don't know but I think that's not a big deal either way. Batman would be the harder part. I honestly don't know where they could go with this one. At first I thought that they could change the comic storyline a little bit and instead of having the first robin become nightwing he could maybe take up the mantle of batman instead but then I remembered that titans is also a thing and in the trailer robin does not seem like the biggest batman fan so I honestly do not know. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them, so let me know in a comment because I am unsure as to what they could do.

Finally the last option, and this one is definitely plausible, more plausible than option #1 if you ask me. Because hey if Marvel did it with the Hulk why can't DC?

So those are my ideas for the DCEU and it's future, thank you for reading! :) Please if you have any ideas of your own, on what I said here or otherwise, let me know in a comment as I am intrigued to know what other people think of this topic. If you even don't have any ideas of that sort feel free to rate and let me know how I could have improved this blog post! Also I will put links to the articles I read below so you can check them out for yourself. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you have a great day! :)
