Hurricane: Day 15, Part One
As soon as the to-go-box came, we bolted... Me, Jackson and Evan all raced over to the exit and slammed open the door. As Jackson and Evan raced up, I looked back and saw the men running after us and reaching for their guns. I kicked the door closed and started taking the stairs 3 at a time. Jackson and Evan were already at the top, kicking at the door that led to the roof access. It didn't budge.
"It's locked!" Jackson shouted.
"Stand back," Evan stepped forward and pressed his hand against the door handle. His hand glowed white hot for a few seconds, then the door handle melted into a steaming pile of liquid metal.
"Show off," Jackson muttered under his breath.
We ran out onto the roof, but one thing completely ruined my plan.
"Troy, the next building is at least 300 yards away!" Evan yelled. "I thought you said we could jump."
"How was I supposed to know?" I yelled back. "It looked closer together from the ground!"
I heard the men coming up the stairs after us. As the first two burst out onto the roof, I kicked one in the chest and sent him crashing back down the stairs. I grabbed the other guy's arm and judo flipped him over my shoulder.
"Hurry up and think of something, I can't hold them off forever!" I yelled.
Another 3 hunters burst out onto the roof, and I charged at them. I leaped up and did a somersault, landing with both feet on one of the hunter's shoulders. I kicked one in the face and leaped off of my perch. In midair, I twisted and managed to kick the other two in the chest. As one started to get up, I grabbed my knife and slammed the hilt into his head. He collapsed. I looked over and saw that Evan had engulfed himself completely in fire. He blasted off of the roof and touched down safely onto the next.
"Coming?" He shouted.
Then, 5 more men came out onto the roof carrying some sort of machine. They set it down onto the ground, and it activated.
"Go," I told Jackson. "I got this." I charged, but before I could reach them, the machine let out this huge energy wave. It slammed into me and Jackson, sending us both airborne. Jackson slammed into the roof of the next building, next to Evan. I, however, didn't have nearly that good of luck. I missed the roof by a few inches and plummeted down towards the asphalt below...
