Hurricane: Day 20, Part One
I dragged Jackson across the parking lot... After getting him a safe distance away from the others, I flipped him onto his back, and gave him a sharp punch in the shoulder. I leaped back as Jackson roared and hurled himself at me. I tried to back away, but Jackson spun around and drop-kicked me in midair. I slammed into the ground, and as Jackson landed he already had a gun pointed at my face. "Now you see why I never like waking you up?" I muttered.
"Troy?" he said, shocked. "I almost killed you! Sorry, I couldn't see anything!" He paused for a second. "What the heck happened to you?"
"Besides getting drop-kicked and almost shot in the face by my best friend you mean? It's a long story."
"Does that long story perhaps include what happened to my car?" Jackson said after a second.
I explained what had happened while he had been knocked out.
"So, you made 3 very manly popsicles, you caused a man and a gas station to go boom-boom, and you basically got our only ride home murdered," Jackson summed up.
"That sounds about right, yeah," I said.
"How come Evan and Chloë are still out?" Jackson asked.
"I don't know, they both seem to be completely out of it still," I said.
I casually grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed it all over Evan, who had burst into flames again in his sleep.
"Don't worry, I still have my phone,"Jackson said. "I have another Camaro that can track our location and take the quickest route over to us."
"Dude, that's awesome," I said. "What do we do while we wait?"
"I don't know, first of all, I'm starving, is there a fast food around here?" Jackson asked.
"Yeah, I saw a fast food place just down the road while we were on the way here," I said.
We dragged Evan and Chloë into a pile of bushes, and hid them under some leaves, making sure their faces were clear. Then, we jogged down to the main road and started walking along the side. After about 15 minutes, we came across a Walmart with a Mc' Donald's inside. The store parking lot was empty. and all the lights were off.
"Hey, aren't Walmart's open 24/7?" I asked
"Yeah, they are, weird. Let's go check it out," Jackson said.
I had to pry open the automatic doors. After a second, I managed to pull them open enough for us to squeeze through. It was completely dark inside, and it looked like it had been abandoned, and yet it was still fully stocked. We kept walking. We had to feel along the walls because we couldn't see a thing. I pulled out my flash-light and clicked it. It projected a weak beam, it was almost out of batteries.
"Let's stock up, your the only one who brought your backpack, and you didn't even pack anything useful," I suggested.
I grabbed a Black leather backpack from their clothing area, and I tossed in some flashlights, batteries, rope, string, another 2 hunting knives like the one I had, some extra clothes, a thermos, some bottled water, a pack of skittles and some gum. Jackson grabbed all of the same stuff and stuffed it into another backpack he grabbed, with some extra ammo and knives.
"Something isn't right," Jackson said. One of the first things they get rid of when they shut down are the guns and bullets, and yet even the guns are still here." He grabbed an AXIS XP rifle with a scope, attached a leather strap, and slung it across his shoulder. He stuffed some more ammo into his bag for the gun. He loaded the ammo for the pistols.
"We need to get out of here," I said. "This place is creeping me out."
Jackson didn't respond.
"You OK?" I asked. I looked at him and saw him staring at something over my shoulder. I turned around slowly and saw a pair of deep blue eyes with black pupils staring at us.
"Run!" we both yelled.
