The Legend of Zelda: Intertwined Destinies. part 24

A drop of sweat traveled from his forehead to his brow. Alerted by Bremeur's warning of someone coming, Link equipped his sword and waited for the attackers. He sat behind a pew, out of view if Byrne and a possible second person burst through the doors. He maintained the grip around his sword, ready to attack when the time came. He thought about Zelda, she could be in potential danger if he did nothing. But she could hold her own if needed. It was good that he told her what was happening before he left to fight. <be careful Link. don't push yourself...> Zelda's words echoed as he remembered them from earlier.

Suddenly there were voices from beyond the doors. The men opened them and entered the church, talking to each other as they walked deeper inside. Link heard the voices of only two men, and peaked over to see the shadows of Byrne and a hooded figure.
"Wouldn't it be easier to grab the girl instead?" the other man said with a voice like burning coals.
"No, she hasn't awoken to her identity yet." Byrne said, "The sage is who we're after right now."
At that moment, Link knew he was talking about Bremeur.
"So why didn't you take him earlier like you were supposed to?" the man asked him,
"... I couldn't let Ceris see me like that."
"Bah, your emotion got the better of you."
"You wouldn't understand..." Byrne responded. Link could hear how he suddenly got defensive.
"Ah, you're right about that Byrne. I'm not as I once was-"
Suddenly the Pew Link was behind lifted away from him, and he fell on the wooden floor startled.
He looked up to see Byrne and the man who came with him. The other man was a tall hooded figure - which he recognized was Lynette's kidnapper.
"Well now, we have a guest here, ...Heh, he's from Ordon too." the hooded man said to Link. "I see you became a bodyguard this time. Hmm, Hyrule is a small country no?"
"Leave him to me, Blaaz." Byrne spoke to the man.
"Humph, take care of him if you want. I've got the sage." the hooded man left for Bremeur's chambers.
Link tried to pursue him and was stopped by Byrne, "I'm the one you shall face," he said. Link didn't want to fight with Byrne, for his concerns were of Bremeur. But if he needed to fight through Byrne, then he would do so. He draws his sword from its scabard as Byrne crouches low with his left hand forward. Link saw the mechanical object in his hand was shaped like a much larger hand. Neither spoke as they awaited for the other to attack.

Byrne stepped forward, the two furiously strike each other, sparks flying from their attacks. Byrne grabs Link's sword, he throws a strong kick.
Link blocks with his wrist, he lost his grip on his sword. They both fought for control of it. Byrne throws him hard on the floor. Link quickly stood up. Their swords cross in a stalemate. For a split-second, Link saw a fury in Byrne's eyes. Link pulls away and cuts Byrne's thigh. Byrne forces link backward.

They both stood staring, both wounded from their battle. Link was surprised to find Byrne was equal to his own skill. He assumed Byrne felt the same way. "Hmm... this is interesting," Byrne said amused. "You're not like the others, you're... different."
A strong tremor shook the church, forcing them on their knees. Link's nose burned from a cloud of smoke. Suddenly the room it seemed to glow an odd orange color. The church was burning down around him. That stranger must have set a fire amid their fighting. Byrne looked up, then shot his mechanical hand through the doors and pulled himself out. Parts of the ceiling fell, blocking the doors. Then he thought about Zelda again, she could be trapped in the guest rooms. He regains his footing and runs to the back rooms, toward the inferno.
