The Legend of Zelda: Intertwined Destinies. part 26

(Sorry I've been very late in my fannon, Life right? Well here's the next page for ya.)

Link escapes with Ceris in his arms and Zelda at his back, they all exit safely and watched
the church fall down behind them. Zelda fell to her knees, she coughed as she breathed in the fresh air. Link fell beside her, also exhausted. What ever he did before rescuing them clearly tired him.
"Thank you." she said to him, exhausted but sincere. He nods back to her lazily.
She looks back at the church with sorrow on her mind. She thought about Bremeur, and how his livelihood was falling apart before them - Probably the most dreadful thing for anyone to witness. She looked around, but saw no sign of the old man. Could he still be in the church?!.. the thought worried her deeply. Ceris... She clenched her fists in frustration, pulling up the grass under her knuckles. She felt she hadn't done enough to save anyone.

When she regained her energy, she went to check on Ceris. Link was ahead of her, already knelt to her small body. He listened carefully to her breathing. She started to worry when she looked at Ceris, she appeared to be sleeping.
"W-will she live?" Zelda asked nevously. Link stood there with a serious look in his eyes. She awaited for Link to respond. "... You don't know, do you?" she shrugged. Link shook his head in response.
She looked up at the sound of a horse whining, she saw the horse stall from earlier. "The horses!" she yelled, and began running to them. Link climbed up and ran after her.

They made their way to the horse stall where Epona and two other horses stayed. They were terrified by the church fire, and they flailed in fright. They both run to calm these mighty beasts: Link rushed to calm the nervous Epona, Zelda; the two older residents.
"Whoa!" Zelda called to the other horses and approached them slowly. She started with the brown horse, gently stroking its mane calming the beast. She carefully started moving to the other horse, and repeated her verbal command to the white one. The beast flailed dangerously at her, but with a few careful steps and a soothing tone, she eased the second horse into a calmer state. She exhaled comfortably.
When the horses finally settled down, Link checked with Zelda. She sighed with relief, Link nodded. "... You know, that horse stall might make good shelter," Zelda thought "let's see if we can make Ceris comftorble."
Link left to pick up Ceris.

Zelda checked the stalls and found a small vacancy, she walked inside and prepared a spot for her - by gathering some hay to form a small pile. Not a usual place for anyone to rest, but she did the best she could with what little she had to use. When she made the space for Ceris, Link walked in with the young girl on his back. He examined the space Zelda made and carefully lowered Ceris onto it, careful not to bump her head. ... What will I do? I need to tell her what happened. But...
"Hmm?" Link looked at Zelda concerned.
"Huh? ...Don't worry, it's nothing," she answered, "It's just... What will happen if she-..!" She looked over Link, and noticed a bleeding cut on his wrist. "Link! you're hurt." she took his hand carefully as she looked at his wound, his wrist wasn't broken. She mended his forming scar. Link looked at his wrist, greatful to Zelda's treatment "Thank you." He said.
"You're welcome." She smiled. She looked back at the church, sorrow returning heavily on her mind. "... We should get some rest."
After they sorted the supplies between them, Zelda chose to sleep near a spot glowing in moonlight. She unrolled her bedroll and climbed into it, but couldn't rest with Ceris on her mind. I need to tell her... I can't do it, but she needs to know. She continued to ponder this as she drifted to sleep.

The morning light shines on Zelda's face. She lifts up to an upright position, feeling a painful ache in her shoulders. Ugh, Hopefully this is the one time I sleep like this. she thought while rubbing her shoulders. She lets out a relaxed yawn before standing up, then digs through her bag to find some water. Zelda thought for a moment on their plan to locate the Lost Sanctuary. That thought quickly ended when she saw the remains of the church. Th-that's right... I wonder if Ceris is fairing any better today. She hears a feint moan not far from her, and saw it was Ceris - who was is stirring awake. Zelda walks over to her, relieved that Ceris is conscious.
"Mmrg... Tet...ra?" She murmured, while rubbing her eyes. "Tetra, what happened? Wh-where are we?"
"Don't worry, we're in the horse stall." Zelda answers. Ceris looks around surprised. "I-... I remember we were in the church, and... there... there was a fire." Ceris strained as she was getting up to a seated position on the pile of hay. "Tetra, was it all a dream?" she wondered.
"Would you like some water Ceris? you need something to-"
"Have you seen my father Tetra?!"
"Well... I-..." Zelda wasn't able to confront Ceris with the answers.
"What is it? is something wrong??"
"No, I need to get Lin-er, Liam over. You've been asleep for a while and-"
"Tell me where he is!" Ceris demanded. "Please..."
"Ceris..." Zelda had no choice but to tell Ceris the truth. When she faced her again, she recounted everything that happened that evening. And she mentioned when Link came to rescue them from Ceris's room.
"We got out just as the building had burned down..."
"Yes, and what of father?" Ceris asked worried.
"... He might've-... We didn't see him outside." Zelda said with her face grim.
Ceris's eyes had widened. "N-no... No! Y-you're making this up!" Ceris cried. Her eyes ran with tears. "Tell me it's not so!" Ceris pleaded.
"Ceris I-..." in that moment Zelda lost her tongue, she felt a pain in her chest and almost thought she was choking. Zelda was reminded of herself losing Daphnes seeing Ceris cry. She became flushed as tears ran down her cheaks, and turned away unwilling to face Ceris. "I'm sorry Ceris," She sobbed "I'm so sorry..."
