Siliconera published an article today revealing that child predators used the Nintendo 3DS SwapNote service in Japan, I'm glad those three men got arrested. It's a 12 year old girl and you're like, 44 years old,

Two men aged 49 and 36 in Japan were recently arrested for performing “improper acts” with a 12-year-old girl on multiple occasions. The girl met both individuals through her Nintendo 3DS.

This is just sad. The parents did turn off Wi-Fi, however, the children found a way to enable it again. The parents should have used the Parental Controls feature instead of sliding the wireless switch. After reading this, I'm okay with Nintendo removing Spotpass from SwapNote.

I never really used this feature but I can't blame Nintendo for removing it. You obviously can't trust parents in making sure that their kids don't use their 3DS for things they shouldn't. What's worse is that things like this still occur a lot on mobile phones.

Nintendo is removing a lot of wi-fi features... The one for draw animations (don't remember the name now) have disabled the public gallery.

Even though this is sad but I don't think banning it outright is the solution here. They should figure out other ways to keep it from happening instead of removing the feature altogether. Not everybody is a pedo using it.

Unfortunately only parents can stop this from happening, but they rarely. And considering that Nintendo mostly targets teens and pre-teens, this might be necessary.

Wow. Using Swapnote to get kids like that is pathetic. Are people that desperate? I guess it is a good thing they disabled it. Although there are better ways to stop it then disabling it and ruining it for most people.

Well, parents usually don't care of that stuff, and Nintendo can check drawings one per one.
Nintendo should make a chat system with censorship and finish :p

But that makes a bit to much sense and is to easy for Nintendo to do. lol

Anyways, the only thing 3DS needs is Miiverse and an account system.
Also more DSi Ware space :p

Indeed it does. I've been waiting for Miiverse for to long. I wish they'd give it to us already. Hopefully it'll make up for them getting rid of spotpass for swapnote

What if they make similar limitations to Miiverse now that this nonsense happened? You never know....

They should just add a censor and make it easy to report people who use offensive language. parents also need to keep an eye on their children and see what people are telling them.

You can't really blame the parents too much though. Even if they were to keep an eye on them, the children may hide stuff from them. I mean, this problem happened even with the parental controls in effect.

Yeah, I know. Parents can't know everything. But if they don't watch, then it'd help for them to start. But, who knows.

Yeahhh I think it's probably on a case by case basis. I mean, you can't expect parents to be able to watch them 24/7. For example, if they were to be using it during school?

Wow, this is what Nintendo is forced to do, I can't believe that some people will do these kind of things, its disgusting, for the children safety I think this is the best thing to do, I agree with @Erixsan Nintendo should have MiiVerse come towards the 3DS in replace for SwapNote.

inb4 Miiverse gets shutdown for the same reason (loljk that'd be terrible and completely troll if Nintendo were to do that)

Yikes, I hate the thought that it is child predators like these or even pervs that mess up our chances to enjoy the online chat with other people >.<

It's a social page like Facebook, for example, so censorship and flagging will be too easy.

I read this before, it's pathetic. I'm glad those old lonely losers got arrested. I guess Nintendo's hand was forced on this.
