Any student who attempts to communicate whoever they think the mastermind is to someone else, outside of a class trial, will be swiftly punished.

The students were summoned to the gymnasium by Monokuma.
Monokuma: As an illustration of the sort of punishments I'll hand out, let's use... Jack here. All he does is carve. He's got a carving knife but he won't carve another student. Boooooooooring. Upupupu, at least he'll be good for you kids to see who you're up against. We'll pretend he damaged school property by carving all the wood he found. Daahahaaha!
The floor dropped out from under Jack and he was cooked in the FIRE IN THE BASEMENT OMG and overhead a million carving knives fell on him, impaling him everywhere because Monokuma STILL has no idea what the word 'overkill' means.
Monokuma: Upupu, see? I can kill all of you with a snap of my fingers. Don'tcha dare try to figure out who I am. Just writhe in your cage of despair like I tell you to, dammit!
Monokuma is extremely unnerved.

Monokuma: I love theatre. But since my students won't act as I want, I've learnt to animate them! Watch.
An animation played on Monokuma's silver screen, showing Syn and Toxic having dinner together at an overpriced restaurant. They were at the point of holding hands when Czar, dressed as a waiter, came carrying a dish. They pulled the cover off to reveal Vale's head, complete with salad on the side.
Monokuma: Upupupu, looks like the most romantic meal ever!
