Know what? We need to have MatPat have an episode of deadlock or a Death battle between Red and Ash. I'm sure they'll get 100% of the research, because no one here probably has the time to.

Yes omg yes.
I love me some red (I read all of first ten manga)
However I grew up with ash(grew up with pokemon yellow, pokemon stadium, pokemon puzzle LEAUGE, the anime)

In that case ash has Access to all the tms he had in pokemon yellow and that's bad news for red...
Hmm... Pokemon Yellow is a good point.

LOL

Anyway, how about NO TMs? What about Move Tutor? Blastoise can learn Aura Sphere through tutoring, and Lapras can learn Drill Run through Tutoring.

On the topic of Pikachu, what if Ash has a different Pikachu in each season of the anime?

To clarify:
Ash knows about mega evo.
Move tutor exists in anime, and he has tms in yellow.
So he has access to more than red.

It's possible
But how does that Pikachu have the memories of the previous Pikachu?

I never said Ash doesn't know about Mega Evo, but does he have the tools for mega evo?

My theory on pikachu being different in each region also has a role in this, as his pikachu would possibly be the weakest pokemon in his arsenal. But he would have pikachu with him because he's a noob.

There's no proff it's a different Pikachu, and in several regions (Hoenn to sinnoh on the top of my head) we SEE HIM take the SAME Pikachu with him.

But do we see what happens on the way after the fade to black?

Yes. We saw him get to sinnoh with his Pikachu before it faded to black.

I'm pretty sure ash had the same pikachu because he talks about the same pikachu and how they met and everything
And to answer the actual question
Ash is really not that good of a trainer. Red had elite pokemon, and if he was able to beet the many people who play the game, he can beat ah for sure

So laparas and blastoise are elite compared to infernape and a Charizard that beats legends with no sweat.

Yes and no. Yes because type advantages and no because equal viability in competitive play.

Sorry I just listed two of the pokemon ash had that were good I didn't look at comparing the typing.
Anyways ash has BETTER pokemon than red(unless we count manga),MORE EXPERIENCE,and both have access to tms and move tutor. The only difference is ash isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer...

When was the last time he used that charizard, against entei i think.
Blastoise is water and will annihilate him. Along with the infernape.
Plus who became champion, and who didn't. I guess infernape and charizard are amazing but can they really beat defensive water types
