Battle for Champion Tournament Rules

Rules and the tournament will be a simple one this time around to avoid more waiting time to work with custom requirements. It's the first and last Battle for Champion tournament for the Pokemon League. Some rules may be different from what I originally planned for it since it's been a while.

- You need to have at least one gym badge to participate now (this is NOT the sign-up thread).
- If both players have ORAS, they must use the game.
- Battles will have a deadline to complete.
- Battles are only to be done over Wi-Fi in-game (no Pokemon Showdown, in other words).
- People who have earned most gym badges will get a "little surprise" (some might consider it more).
- Smogon OU (singles) rules with slight changes highlighted in red like this.
- Anyone caught hacking will be fed to the Meep. Any leftovers will go to the pandas and poyos.

Clauses
- http://www.smogon.com/xy/articles/clauses
  • Species Clause
  • Sleep Clause
  • Evasion Clause
  • OHKO Clause
  • Moody Clause
  • Endless Battle Clause
  • Swagger Clause
  • Baton Pass Clause (Pokemon can't use baton pass with 2 stat boosters)
  • Item Clause (leftovers is an exception)
Banned Items
  • Gengarite
  • Kangaskhanite
  • Lucarionite
  • Mawilite

Banned Pokemon
  • Gothitelle with Shadow Tag and Rest.
  • Aegislash
  • Blaziken
  • Greninja
  • Pokemon that you can't hatch from an egg (Ditto is an exception).
    • If this isn't clear enough, it means no legendary Pokemon like Latios or Kyurem-Black).
    • Pokemon must have been born in XY/ORAS.
Ask questions, leave suggestions/feedback for possible rule changes, or instill fear into your opponents by telling everyone, "Marc my words, I will be victorious" :sneaky:
Oh I see that pun XD I might consider entering if work doesn't put me down a few notches ;-;

The only reason is because of hacking and I can't just limit the list of people allowed to use them to only trusted Pedians :/

If that's your argument, you could say that any Pokémon could be hacked. Might as well ban them all, right?
I personally don't feel like it's justifiable enough to ban all legendaries.

I agree with FirstSerpent, but I also don't care at all about the use of legends. My qualms lie with this:

1. Can we be as specific as possible about that BP Clause?

2. If we're running Item Clause, can we be strict about it and not have any exceptions?

3. If it's Smogon OU, why not just run the standard?

Oh boy, we're actually going to do this! I better get back into the swing of things and start practicing!

I really don't like Gothitelle with Rest, but I'm just curious, why is it banned?
Also sorry to double post, but this is an excellent question... This is OU, Taunt that nonsense and kill it quickly, not worth a ban, Talonflame is far more threatening.

I'm in. I usually just use my bred Pokémon anyway. Need to use a new team anyway.

Question; if the Pokémon League is leaving, I will no longer be a gym leader? ;~;

Smogon banned shadow tag mainly because of PP stalling Gothitelle with Shadow Tag and Rest. I'm allowing shadow tag instead of banning it outright by only banning Gothitelle when it meets the condition.

1. This and this cover it well \o/

2. I've always considered the item leftovers as an exception to item clause ><

3. It is Smogon OU, just with item clause (some people have different ideas of it) and allowing Wobbuffet (edit: actually, minus my custom rule about the legends but I'm debating on that and waiting for FirstSerp to reply).

Yup, but anyone can get hatched 5 IV Pokemon. People can't get 5 IV legends easily >< (especially hidden power). So if someone does hack a hidden power fire Latios, they are going to have the upper-hand in battle against someone who doesn't.

Technically, yes. There might be another gym leader status tho :p (name change).

HP Fire latios seems very niche though, Isn't it too specific for banning all legendaries?
What about the people that spend hours or even days resetting and re-catching a certain legendary just to get a certain number of IVs on it? Regardless of hidden power. :/
Realistically it'll be impossible to monitor everyone's Pokémon, yes. Just like how there isn't really a way to make sure every Pokémon that challengers bring into battle will be Kalos born. There's always a certain amount of trust involved, and unless something that would normally not have a specific move unless it's from a previous gen uses it, we can't say for sure in those situations either.
(And I am in no way insinuating you should let 'trustworthy' people use legendaries exclusively, that would be brutally unfair.)

Shadow Tag Gothitelle switches in, tricks a choice scarf, and spam rest until your Pokémon wastes all of his PPs

I would say that banning Shadow Tag on itself is enough (Since Gothorita can do the same)

Also, no legends? I mean, most of my teams I have use at least one. I have one that is really good and doesn't have legendaries, but is a defensive team, and the battles may take too long

HP fire Latios was an example ;-; (but I'm talking about perfect 5 IV legendaries with the right nature in general).

You can work extremely hard for your 3-4 IV legendary (maybe even 5 IV because it is possible) when Bad Boy Tom hacks a 5-6 IV one in. It's unfair to the people who have worked hard resetting for the right IVs and nature when someone who probably doesn't know much about Pokemon IVs shows off their perfect IV collection (that's an example of Tom likely getting caught). In some situations, this guy named Tom would know a thing or two and will not get caught.

I've given that some good thought because there is no real way around it instead of striking legends off the list. I know some people have reset hundreds of times for their legends and I want people to use Pokemon they've worked so hard for in battle, but what doesn't sit right with me is when someone cheats/hacks to win especially since I'm forking out the dough for the prize ><

This isn't some tournament aimed at newbies to prevent the usage of legends. It's a tournament to determine a Pokemon champion but hacking has basically screwed up the game for us legit players (some shops have been shut down as proof of this).

If Mourning and you are still set on using legends knowing the risk, I'll update the first post >.<)/

You have to use the same team for the full tournament?

I'm thinking of participants having two teams registered and switching between them. Thoughts?

I'm open to ideas~
