I still really dont understand how you recieve the pokemon. Is it that you trade with them, they give you the pokemon and you give them something like a pidgy?

Yeah. You just trade and odd pokemon (eg. wurple) for the pokemon you have requested. The trading is done with friend codes given in between the two traders

Only from the Wii U's digital deluxe promotion (which ended recently I think), but otherwise, you can't buy it in stores.
